The Western Rivers steamboat, one of the most remarkable creations of man, was developed in the Mississippi Valley but admired 'round the globe for its practicality and beauty. Their shapes, proportions and technical qualities were thought to be unrecorded until only a few years ago. Today the work of the author of this catalog and several other steamboat researchers has found or created a sizable body of information about them. A number of riparian and marine libraries and museums now exist where models, paintings, artifacts, records and even actual steamboats are available for research inspection. This list of drawings, books and research sources will be helpful to many.
