21 steam propeller towboats were built at several yards by the Defense Plant Corporation during 1942 and 1943. They were named for battles as follows: ATTU, BATAAN, BOU ARADA, CASABLANCA, CORAL SEA, GUADALCANAL, GUAM, JAVA SEA, KISKA, KOKODA, LUNGA POINT, MATEUR, MIDWAY ISLANDS, MILNE BAY, TENARU RIVER, TULAGI, TUNIS and WAKE ISLAND.
